Retreat or Surrender!

Posted by Christine Vogelsang on

Women's Retreat April 2013 Music - MusicAn army that feels overwhelmed will take a step back, or several steps back, to regroup to fight another day.

Thirty women may have been feeling a bit overwhelmed with what life was throwing at them when they decided to sign up for “Strength with Power through His Spirit.” They gathered on a beautiful Saturday morning last week to enjoy the ocean view at Pt. Loma Nazarene University and to seek strength and power from their Lord.

The morning in the park overlooking the vast Pacific Ocean opened our minds to all of the sources of power that the world claims to have. Sometimes it’s a quick fix with a “power bar” to get us through the day. Maybe it’s a way to strengthen our bodies with supplements. We all want some things to be powerful and strong. We want to be powerful and strong. And the world tells us we can… on our own. But it’s a lie. A powerful lie that’s been around since time began.

Women's Retreat April 2013 Food - FoodAfter strengthening our bodies with a delicious array of salads and scrumptious apple cobbler, we gathered around His word to find out the truth behind all of those claims we hear so often. The ones that encourage us to rely on ourselves, to find that inner core of strength we’re all supposed to have.

“When I am weak, then I am strong” became clearer as the truth from Scriptures proclaimed God’s power and strength, more than we can ever imagine, and more available to us when we realize He answers our call to “Give me strength!”

The gals left refreshed, renewed, strengthened and empowered. They took with them the words of the songs we shared and “Power Bar Verses” to keep them close to the true source of our power… His word!

If you missed this retreat, don’t worry. There is a repeat in the same location on Saturday, November 2nd. Mark your calendars for a day to retreat into the arms of your Savior, surrendering to His message of love and forgiveness, so that you will be strengthened to go forward with His power.
