Interview with Sara, Kayla, and Kathryn Tracy - Community Tree Project

Posted by Michelle Kruest on

Would you tell me your name and how old you are?

Kathryn: My name is Kathryn. I am 10 years old and I am in 4th grade.

Kayla: My name is Kayla and I am 12 years old. I am in 7th grade

Sara: My name is Sara. I am 15 years and I am a sophomore.

I hear your family was all over San Diego today (Saturday) because each of you are in a different sport. What are your hobbies?

Sara: I play soccer and I run cross country. Today I had a soccer game. They take up all of my time, but I like it.

Kayla: I am on the Lacrosse team.

Sara: And I am a cheerleader. It’s really fun.

Kayla: We also all play piano.

What is the best part about having sisters?

Kathryn: That you always have someone to play with.

Kayla: Yeah, it is nice to have them around when you want to do something. Kathryn and I play in the backyard together a lot.

Sara: Sometimes we’ll play duets together on the piano.

Would you tell me about your family?

Sara: Our dad (Kyle) is an engineer and our mom (Sandy) works at school. Our dog’s name is Jazzy and we have a cat, Sparkles, who is really old.

Kayla: Grandpa Berndsen lives in Poway and attends Community as well.  Our other Grandma and Grandpa live in Maine. They come to visit us during the winter sometimes.

Do you know how your family started going to Community?

Sara: Our mom moved to Poway from Virginia when she was in high school. They started at a church in Poway and then found Community. They've been going to Community ever since.

Are you a part of any activities at Community?
Kayla: I am in confirmation. Right now I’m doing confirmation from home because I have Lacrosse on Wednesday, but once that is over I’ll get to go to the classes. I also go to the junior high activities. We just went to Get Air (Trampoline Park in Poway) and that was really fun.

Kathryn: I am in the choir and in the summer I go to VBS.

Sara: I am a part of the youth group and I go on the summer mission trips. I went to San Francisco this past summer. I had been to San Francisco before but not to the bad parts of town. It was really interesting to learn about that part of the city.

What do you do as a family?

Kayla: We’ve go on fun vacations together. Last summer we went on an Alaska cruise. Our grandpa and our grandma and grandpa went too.

Kathryn: That was really fun!

Sara: The best part about the trip was when we saw an iceberg fall and then when we saw a bear. It was eating a baby deer which was sad, but seeing a bear was really cool.

Kayla: We’ve been a lot of places like Puerto Rico and Kauai. I love Hawaii. I would move there.

Kathryn: I got stuck on the zip line in Kauai, but it was still fun.

What do you want to do when you grow up?

Sara: An occupational therapist. I’m not sure where I want to go to college yet. I’ve looked into Cal Lutheran but that is it so far.

Kayla: I want to be an engineer; the kind that invents things.

Kathryn: I have no idea, but maybe a veterinarian.

WHAT IS THE COMMUNITY TREE PROJECT?

Community Lutheran Church is a growing congregation worshiping 550 people between two campuses each week. As we continue grow, it is important that our relationships with one another continue to grow as well.  Over the coming months, our church website and Facebook page will be introducing you to a member of Community that you may or may not know yet. You’ll have the opportunity to learn a little about each member and delight in the different personalities and lifestyles that come together each week to worship our Savior.

When you join us for worship on Sunday mornings or events throughout the week, we encourage you to reach out and connect with someone you don’t normally talk to. As Pastor Vogelsang so eloquently reminds us, we are all “dear Christian friends.” We just don’t know each other yet! I’d like to change that one photo at a time.

"So that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it." - 1 Corinthians 12:25-27
